Despite Being 18, Michael Oher Could Have Been Adopted

Former NFL tackle Michael Oher has filed a lawsuit against the Tuohy family, who he claims tricked him into agreeing to a conservatorship instead of an adoption. The Tuohy family’s lawyer issued a public statement attacking Oher’s character, which has been criticized as inappropriate and not in line with their claim of familial love for Oher. Sean Tuohy stated that they were advised by lawyers that they couldn’t adopt someone over the age of 18, hence the conservatorship. However, this contradicts Tennessee law which allows for adoption of persons 18 and older. There is also speculation that Oher may have waited too long to sue due to statute of limitations.
