Over 1,000 former Northwestern athletes have written an open letter condemning hazing and defending the school’s athletic culture following allegations of widespread problems. The letter, signed by ex-athletes from every varsity sport at Northwestern, supports the university’s efforts to investigate these claims but insists they do not define the overall athletics culture. The university is currently facing lawsuits from over 10 former football players and a former volleyball player alleging hazing and mistreatment within their programs. In response to these allegations, Northwestern hired ex-U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch to investigate the overall athletics culture and accountability mechanisms.
